Adolescent & Family DBT
The Adolescent and Family DBT program at BTCT offers DBT to adolescents ages 13-19 and their families. In Adolescent DBT, parents attend the Multi-Family skills group and learn the DBT skills alongside their adolescent. This allows parents to take an active role in their teen's treatment and support the use of skills at home.
In some cases, we also offer separate sessions directly to parents to learn systematic skills and strategies specific to reinforcing the changes their teen is making in therapy, responding to intense emotions on the part of their teen, and managing problem behaviors on the part of their teen. These sessions are with a different therapist than the teen's therapist, in order to help the teen maintain an undisrupted working relationship with their individual therapist.
If previous therapy episodes have resulted in only temporary gains and intense emotions play a role in your teen's struggles, then Adolescent DBT may be the treatment for your teen. Please feel free to call us at (253) 212-0750 with any questions you may have.
